Arenson has more than 20 years experience in the publishing and information
industries. A Seattle-based indexer, technical writer, freelance journalist
and online help author, he provides indexing, Web development and online help
design services. A member of both the American Society of Indexers and the Society
for Technical Communication, he has written for business, newspapers, magazines, non-profit organizations, educators and others. Mr. Arenson has Bachelor's degrees in Communications and Zoology.

Avni is the part-time librarian for Sound Transit, the three-county regional transit authority for the Puget
Sound area. She has been a youth services librarian for King County Libraries, worked in the county juvenile
detention library with at-risk youth, administered a private K-8 school library, and contributed book reviews to
various publications. An accomplished knitter and quilter, and an animal shelter volunteer, Ms. Avni holds a B.A.
in Editorial Journalism and a Master of Library & Information Science, both from the University of Washington.
Indexing cannot be reduced to a set of steps that can be followed!
It is not a mechanical process. Indexing books is a form of writing. Like other types of writing it
is a mixture of art and craft, judgment and selection. With practice and experience, indexers develop their own style
as do other writers.
